TRUST FUNDS

Inspired with the noble idea of disseminating knowledge and human understanding through academic pursuits and original research among the people of Asia, the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh started its endowment program from 1984. The program received positive responses from many intellectually oriented philanthropic persons who are inclined to extend their beneficent hands to activities leading to academic and cultural enrichment. Their endowments promote intellectual developments and also uphold their public image.

From 1984 to date forty-six Trust Funds have been established at the Society. All these endowments function regularly and to the highest satisfaction of the respective founders and members of the Society. Each Trust Fund is managed by a Trust Management Committee chaired by a nominee of the Society’s Council. These Trust Funds arrange public lectures, organize research projects, and give awards to persons who make outstanding contributions to research.

FINAS Foundation: The foundation was established by Khan Bahadur Abdul Hakim in 1984. It is the first foundation under the Society’s Endowment Scheme. Its capital is Tk. 3,00,000. The foundation has been established with a view to promoting research within the broad area of “Science in the Shaping of Modern Life”.

Saleha Khanam Trust Fund: This trust fund was established by Mrs. Saleha Khanam in 1986. Mr. Mustafizur Rahman Khan (M. R. Khan), spouse of Mrs. Saleha Khanam, was the key person behind the establishment of the trust fund. Its capital is Tk. 3,00,000. The aim of this trust fund is to promote scholarly research and conduct annual lecture on “Savings, Insurance, Banking and other Aspects of the Economy of Bangladesh”.

Mustafizur Rahman Khan and Saleha Khanam Trust Fund: The trust fund was established by Professor Mahfuza Khanam on 25 May 1987. The capital of the trust fund is Tk. 4,20,000. The objective of the trust fund is to promote research on “Rights of Woman in Asia”.

Professor Mofassiluddin Ahmed Trust Fund: This trust fund was established by renowned psychologist and psychotherapist, Professor Mofassiluddin Ahmed on 20 June 1987. Its capital is Tk. 2,35,000. The objective of this trust fund is to promote research on the “The Role of Medistic Psychotherapy in the Advancement of the People of Developing Countries of Asia” and it arranges one annual lecture by an eminent scholar.

Professor Muhammad Ishaq Trust Fund: The trust fund was established by renowned historian Professor Muhammad Ishaq on 14 October 1987. Its opening capital is Tk. 1,00,000. The aim of this trust fund is to promote research on “The History of Bengal”. It arranges one annual lecture by an eminent historian.

Munshi Aftabuddin and Abdul Hafiz Trust Fund: This trust fund was established by Mr. Abdul Hafiz on 25 November 1987. Its capital is Tk. 1,71,191. The objective of this trust fund is to promote research on the broad area of “Bangladesh Studies”. It arranges one annual lecture by an eminent scholar.

Professor Shafiqur Rahman Trust Fund: The trust fund was established by renowned economist Professor Shafiqur Rahman on 20 March 1988. The capital of the trust fund is Tk.12,00,000. The objective of this trust fund is to promote research within the broad area of “Humanities and Social Sciences”.

National Professor Atwar Husain Trust Fund: This trust fund was established by Professor Rahmat Ara Husain on 1 October 1988. The capital of the trust fund is Tk. 1,50,000. This trust fund holds one annual lecture on a topic related to “Economic Problems in Developing Countries of Asia and Planning Strategy for Development”, and awards a gold medal to a female scholar for producing a substantial research work in any field of “Humanities or Social Sciences”.

Halima Begum and Shaikh Sharafuddin Trust Fund: The trust fund was established by Dr. A. M. Sharafuddin on 29 June 1991. Its capital is Tk. 1,45,000. The objective of the trust fund is to promote research in the field of “Science and Technology”

Professor Muhammad Nurul Karim Trust Fund: This trust fund was established by eminent educationist, Professor Muhammad Nurul Karim on 20 November 1991. The capital of the trust fund is Tk. 2,00,000. Its aim is to arrange one annual lecture by an eminent scholar within the broad area of “Asians’ Contribution to the Study of Arabic, Islamic Studies, Persian and Urdu”.

Jahanara Majid and Mahbub Alam Trust Fund: The trust fund was established by Mr. Mahbub Alam on 16 July 1994. Its capital is Tk. 1,35,000.00 and the trust fund promotes research within the broad area of “Urban History of Bangladesh”.

Justice Muhammad Ibrahim Trust Fund: This trust fund was jointly established by National Professor Sufia Ahmed and Mr. Tariq Ibrahim on 24 December 1996. Its opening capital is Tk. 3,00,000. The objective of the trust fund is to promote research and publications within the broad area of “Law, Humanities and Liberal Arts” by arranging lectures and gold medal awards alternatively every year.

Shaheed Colonel Jamil Ahmed Memorial Trust Fund: The trust fund was established by Mrs. Anjuman Ara Jamil, former M.P. on 12 March 2000. Its opening capital is Tk. 1,00,000. The objective of the trust fund is to promote research within the broad area of “Defense and Security related issues, Civil Military Relationship, Role of Defense Services in Disaster Management and Peace-keeping nationally and internationally”.

Dr. Serajul Haque and Mahzuzah Haque Trust Fund: This trust fund was established by Dr. Serajul Haque on 3 June 2001. The capital of the trust fund is Tk. 6,00,000. The aim of the trust fund is to conduct annual lectures and promote research within the broad area of “Islam in its Various Aspects”.

Maulvi Shamsuddin Ahmed Memorial Trust Fund: The trust fund was established by Mr. Md. Aminul Islam on 20 January 2003. Its capital is Tk. 6,00,000. Its main purpose is to fund research in the area of “Numismatics, Epigraphy, Archaeology, Art and Architecture”.

A. K. M. Azizul Haq and Husniara Huq Trust Fund: This trust fund was established by Professor Husniara Huq on 19 March 2003. The capital of the trust fund is Tk. 9,00,000. Its aim is to promote research on aspects within the broad area of “Education and Development”.

Mohammad Wajed Ali Trust Fund: The trust fund was established by Professor Wajihur Rahman on 9 December 2003. Its capital is Tk. 7,00,000. The objective of this trust fund is to promote research on a topic relating to “Contemporary Bengali literature of Muslim writers, Bengali literature of the 20th century, political and religious influences on Bengali literature”.

Professor Mahfuza Khanam and Barrister Shafique Ahmed Trust Fund: This trust fund was established by Professor Mahfuza Khanam on 24 January 2004. The capital of the trust fund is Tk. 4,80,000. The objective of the trust fund is to promote research on “Law and Human Rights”.

Barrister Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed Memorial Foundation: The foundation was established by National Professor Sufia Ahmed on 18 July 2004 in memory of her late spouse Barrister Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed with an endowment of Tk. 10,00,000. The objective of this foundation is to promote research in the area of “Legal and Constitutional History and Cultural History of Bangladesh”.

Professor Abdul Majed Khan Memorial Trust: This trust was jointly established by Mr. Abdur Rahman Khan, Ms. Sabiha Rahman, Mrs. Maliha Chaudhury, Mr. Abdur Rahim Khan and Mr. Abdur Razzak Khan on 22 May 2008 in the name of their late father, Professor Abdul Majed Khan. Its opening capital is Tk. 5,00,000. The aim of this trust is to promote research on a topic relating to “History and Culture of Bangladesh and South Asia”.

Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah Trust Fund: The trust fund was established by Dhaka Ahsania Mission, a non-profit development organization, on 22 January 2009. Its opening capital is Tk. 50,00,000. “Promotion of basic and applied research in arts, humanities, social sciences and science” is the objective of the trust fund.

F. I. M. Nurul Abedin and Anjuman Ara Begum Memorial Trust Fund: This trust fund was established by Professor Samina Sultana on 1 February 2010 with an opening capital of Tk. 5,00,000. The objective of the trust fund is to promote research within the broad area of “Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences and Environment”.

Khuda Buksh Memorial Trust Fund: The trust fund was established by Mr. Javed Bukth on 25 February 2010 with an opening capital of Tk. 5,00,000. The trust fund promotes research within the broad area of “Economy, History, Social Sciences and Human Rights”.

Dr. Anwar Dil and Dr. Afia Dil Trust Fund: This trust fund was jointly established by Dr. Anwar Dil and Dr. Afia Dil on 5 February 2011 with an opening capital of Tk. 5,00,000. Its main objective is promotion of research and publication in the area of “Asian History, Culture and Civilization”.

Masterda Surja Sen Trust Fund: The founder Biplobi Benode Behari Choudhury established the trust fund on 16 July 2011 with a view to enabling the Society to arrange an annual lecture by a learned scholar to be delivered on subjects relating to “Humanities and Social Sciences in General and Political Ideas and Thoughts”. Its opening capital is Tk. 5,00,000.

Dr. R. A. Ghani and Mrs. Hosne Ara Ghani Trust Fund: This trust fund was established by Dr. Abu Faizi Mohammad Roushan Alam Ghani (Dr. R. A. Ghani) on 27 December 2011. The trust fund has been founded to conduct annual lectures within the area of “Research and Development in the Field of Science, Engineering and Technology”. Its opening capital is Tk. 5,00,000.

Sarathi Education and Research Trust Fund: The trust fund was established by Hyatt Properties Limited on 19 May 2012. The trust fund has been established with a view to supporting research within the broad area of “Social, economic and scientific development with particular emphasis on research on education, land and housing, health, employment, poverty, women’s empowerment and child development”. Its opening capital is Tk. 50,00,000.

Bangabandhu Memorial Lecture Trust Fund: This trust fund was established in the name of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by National Professor Nurul Islam on 5 August 2012. The objective of the trust fund is to conduct annual lectures on “The contributions of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman towards the birth of independent sovereign state of Bangladesh; history, culture, education, economy and Society of Bangladesh”. Its capital is Tk. 15,00,000.

National Professor Dr. Nurul Islam Memorial Trust Fund: The trust fund was established by National Professor Nurul Islam on 5 August 2012 with a view to enabling the Society to conduct lectures by learned scholars on “National Professor Nurul Islam’s contributions as a physician, educationist and founder of medical and educational institutions; recent advances in medical research; medical ethics; problems of medical profession in Bangladesh; commercial attitudes in the medical profession; medical profession: past and present; crisis in medical care; diseases, patients and physicians etc.”. Its opening capital is Tk. 10,00,000.

Tajuddin Ahmad Memorial Trust Fund: The trust fund was established in the name of Mr. Tajuddin Ahmad, the first Prime Minister of Bangladesh, by her daughter Mrs. Sharmin Ahmad on 30 June 2013 with a view to conducting lectures by learned scholars on “Life and Works of Tajuddin Ahmad (such as Tajuddin Ahmad as an individual, his socio-political-economic vision and his contributions to the War of Liberation of Bangladesh); and history, culture, economy and politics of Bangladesh”. Its capital is Tk. 5,00,000.

Faizunnessa Kabiruddin Rahmani Memorial Foundation: The foundation was jointly established by Professor Habiba Khatun, Professor Latifa Shamsuddin, Mr. Abu Raihan Mahmud, Engineer Abul Hasan Masud, Professor Hafiza Khatun, Mrs. Hamida Shireen and Mr. Abu Monjur Morshed on 2 April 2014 with a view to promoting research on “Literature, history, economics, politics, society, law, gender, geography, environment, engineering, medicine, architecture or any other issues related to Greater Dhaka”. Its opening capital is Tk. 10,00,000.

Professor Mohammad Moniruzzaman Memorial Trust Fund: The trust fund was established by Mrs. Rashida Zaman on 21 April 2015. It has been founded with a view to conducting annual lectures by learned scholars on “Language, literature, history, science and culture of Bangladesh in particular and Asia in general”. Its opening capital is Tk. 7,00,000.

Professor Dr. Muhammad Dilawar Husain Trust Fund: Professor Muhammad Dilawar Husain established the trust fund after his name on 4 November 2015. The objective of the trust fund is to promote research within the broad area of “History, history of Muslims, culture, heritage, human values, protection of human rights, politics of Bangladesh and other various important issues”. Its opening capital is Tk. 7,00,000.

Dr. Md. Mainul Islam and Mr. Waliul Islam Memorial Trust Fund: The trust fund was established by Dr. Md. Mainul Islam on 22 March 2016. It has been founded with a view to organizing lectures by learned scholars on “Society, Politics, Economics, Education of Bangladesh and Literature or Music of Poet Robindra Nath Tagore”. Its capital is Tk. 20,00,000.

Dr. A. R. Mallick and R. N. Mallick Memorial Trust Fund: The trust fund was established by Mrs. Rahmatun Nessa Mallick on 22 March 2016 with a view to promoting research on “War of Liberation of Bangladesh; Education and Research in Bangladesh with Special Reference to Primary Education; History of South Asia, particularly related to Bangladesh”. Its opening capital is Tk. 10,00,000.

S. N. H. Rizvi Memorial Trust Fund: The trust fund was established by Mr. Asghar Rizvi, Mr. Haider Rizvi, Dr. Gowher Rizvi and Mr. Jowher Rizvi on 22 March 2016. The objective of the trust fund is to promote research within the broad area of “Inclusive Plural Society, Secularism and Religious Tolerance; Social Justice; and the Influence of the Sufis and Syncretic Islam in Bangladesh”. Its opening capital is Tk. 10,00,000.

Noor Jehan and Khan Sarwar Murshid Trust Fund: The trust fund was by Professor Tazeen Mahnaz Murshid on 23 October 2016. The trust fund promotes research within the broad area of “Lives, times, works and areas of interests of Noor Jehan Murshid and Khan Sarwar Murshid, aesthetics, higher education, contemporary politics, governance, civil society, human rights and gender, and social and political development, education, social welfare, comparative literature and Bengal history, etc.”. Its opening capital is Tk. 10,00,000.

Amina Bashir and Murtaja Baseer Memorial Trust Fund: The trust fund was established by Professor Murtaja Baseer on 23 July 2017 with a view to organizing lectures by learned scholars on “World Art, special preference to the Art of Myanmar, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Nepal and Sri Lanka; History of Independent Sultans of Bengal; Coins of Early Historical Bengal up to 1538 AD; Coins of Rajas of Arakan (1571-1648 AD); Contemporary World Cinema; Modern English Literature: ‘Angry Young Man’, United Kingdom and ‘Beat Generation’, United states of America (USA); and Bangladesh: Art and Society”. Its opening capital is Tk. 10,00,000.

Hamim Khan Memorial Trust Fund: The trust fund was established by Dr. Akbar Ali Khan on 15 March 2018 with a view to organizing lectures by learned scholars on “Science and Religion”. Its opening capital is Tk. 20,00,000.

Kabi Syed Shamsul Haq Memorial Trust Fund: This trust fund was established by Mrs. Anwara Syed Haq, wife of late Syed Shamsul Haq, on 15 September 2019. Its opening capital is Tk. 5,00,000. The main aim of the trust fund is to promote research and conduct annual lectures within the broad area of “Art, Culture, Poetry, Drama, Literature and History”.

Professor Dr. A. B. M. Mahmood Trust Fund: The trust fund was established by Professor A. B. M. Mahmood on 29 October 2019. Its opening capital is Tk. 5,00,000. The objective of this trust fund is to promote research on the broad area of “Social, Political and Economic Development of East Bengal and Bangladesh (1905-1975); Role of Bangabandhu in the Emergence of Bangladesh”. It arranges one lecture biennially by an eminent scholar.

National Professor Dr. Sufia Ahmed Memorial Foundation: It was established by Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed and Dr. Tasneem Raina Fateh on 20 November 2020. Its opening capital is Tk. 10,00,000. The objective of this trust fund is to promote research in the broad area of “The Mughal Dynasty and the Suri Empire; Muslim Community in Bengal (19th and 20th centuries); Bengali Nationalism and State Formation in the 20th and 21st centuries (with an emphasis on Bengali socio-cultural trends and identity and gender equality / women’s empowerment in the Bangladeshi context); Modern Turkey (with an emphasis on Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, his reforms and legacy”. The foundation has been established to hold annual lectures, seminars and conferences within the scope of its objectives and offer a gold medal that may be awarded as and when feasible for a scholarly work determined to be the best published work on the mentioned areas in the preceding two years.

Professor Ahmad Kabir Memorial Trust Fund: The trust fund was jointly established by Professor Upama Kabir, Dr. Shaily Kabir, and Dr. Mitra Kabir on 11 August 2021. Its opening capital is Tk. 5,00,000. The trust fund has been established with a view to organizing annual lectures on a topic related to “Bengali language and literature, literary history, arts, and culture”.

Moulovi Taleb Ali and Begum Yaqubunnessa Memorial Trust Fund: This trust fund was jointly established by Barrister Shafique Ahmed and Professor Mahfuza Khanam on 11 November 2021 with an opening capital of Tk. 5,00,000. It has been established with a view to organizing annual lectures on a topic related to “Law, Human Justice, Social Justice, Arbitration, Intellectual Property, Education, Economics, Environment, Health and other Important Issues”.

Professor Dr. Fazlul Halim Chowdhury Memorial Trust Fund: This trust fund was established by Professor Sadeka Halim on 6 January 2022. The opening capital of the trust fund is Tk. 10,00,000. The trust fund has been established with a view to organizing annual lectures on a topic related to “Science and Technology, Humanities and Social Sciences”.

Amena Arshad Memorial Trust Fund: This trust fund was established by Dr. Muhammad Abdul Mazid on 8 June 2023. The opening capital of the trust fund is Tk. 10,00,000. The trust fund has been established with a view to organizing annual lectures and/or awarding research grants on topics related to ‘the Sundarbans, the largest mangrove forest in the world and a natural tapestry of Asia, in particular, and other forests of Bangladesh in general’.
